Gmail Login or Gmail sign in enables you to have access to your Google Mail account; a free gift (email services) from Google. From the login page, type your username (Email Address) and Password into the box provided and presses enter; you will be automatically brought to your main Gmail homepage.
However, for much more understanding, this article will show a brief highlight about the world of Gmail, the purpose of Gmail login, solution to common problems associated with accessing your account and what to do after login in to your account.
Gmail, a free email service provider from the world’s biggest technology company, Google, is one of the fastest and most reliable free email service providers out there.
It also doubles as one of the most aggressive free email service providers in its customer’s services, with the utmost aim of pleasing and satisfying their subscribers and users. Of particular interest is the attachment feature of Gmail; from personal experience, attaching a file or folder with the use of their service is much more faster than the likes of the other free email service providers e.g. AOL, Yahoo, Hotmail e.t.c.
Now, the next question that comes to mind right now is how to be able to undergo Gmail sign in or being able to access your account. I will highlight five different tips on how you can get this done:
1. through the usual and general Gmail address on one’s browser (i.e. their interface)
2. Login in through Remote services e.g. using thunderbird e.t.c.
3. Through Mobile connection
4. Through Google Toolbar, iGoogle e.t.c.
1. Through the usual and general Gmail address on one’s browser (i.e. their interface)
This involves the use of Gmail’s web interface through the use of the main URL address at ttps://www.gmail.com/ or simply www.gmail.com (they basically mean the same thing). In this case, follow the below guidelines:
- Go to the main Gmail login page, which is also their Gmail homepage.
- From the login page, the slots or boxes you will use are clearly seen; locate the username and that of the password.
- Input or type your Gmail Email ID into the username slot and also type in your highly secured password into the password slot provided.
- Press enter on your keyboard or simply move your mouse to the sign in icon ( it has a sky blue background), click on it and you will be brought to your main account.
- However, before clicking on the sign in icon, you will notice to the right of that icon, another icon which states “stay signed in”; my advice here is that you uncheck the box i.e. don’t click on the box before the icon, this is simply for your security purpose because if you click on stay signed in, your account will be left opened and such development is not good for your privacy.
2. Login in through Remote services e.g. using thunderbird e.t.c.
Gmail support the use of Microsoft outlook (and other desktop email programs e.g. thunderbird) to be able to undergo Gmail Login. It means you can access your account from a configured Gmail outlook. What this means is that after you have configured your outlook on your laptop or PC to access your Gmail account, you can be able to check and read your mails anytime without having to use the general web interface. However, the first step to achieving this is to configure the outlook first.
I have detailed the guidelines and instruction on my blog; check it out at http://signupguide.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-to-access-gmail-email-on-microsoft.html
In addition, the use of Microsoft outlook for example offers this particular tremendous advantage. If you are someone that has more than one Gmail Email account, it is possible for you to login, access and read your mails of both on the same outlook. This is different from the general means whereby you have to log out, then login to access the other account.
To get this done, all you have to do is to make sure that you configure the two accounts on the outlook; so anytime there is internet connection, emails will still be downloaded on both.
The same method as you have used to set up your outlook account (from above) is the same way you will use to set up additional account. You can do this for your multiple Gmail account.
3. Through Mobile connection
You can also access your account using a Mobile device. Infact, it is not a new thing any longer using Blackberry phones, other smartphones, Android phones e.t.c. to be able to access your account.
In most cases, nearly all the devices came with configured and installed Gmail link or icon in them. All you have to do is to click on those icons and you will be directed to the mobile login page on your phone.
4. Through Google Toolbar, iGoogle e.t.c.
The Google toolbar once installed on your PC or laptop offers a login page option. Amongst the many functions that this toolbar does is the ability to also allow for Gmail login access. All that needs to be done is to click on the Gmail icon present on the toolbar, and straightaway you will be brought to the login page.
However, the first step is to have the toolbar downloaded and installed; to do this is pretty simple, go to this page and have it downloaded.
In addition, the use of iGoogle also does the same function. Access your account at iGoogle
The above are the basic ways at which you can be able to sign into your Gmail account. I will share with you some interesting things you can do after undergo Gmail sign in to your account.
1. Ability to read and reply to messages
2. Ability to change your password
3. Ability to customize the outlook of your homepage account
4. Still on point 3 above, one interesting feature you can use to change the outlook of your homepage is to change your theme. To do this, simply go to Mail Settings. You can locate Mail settings if you click on the Wheel icon that lies at the far top right corner of the page. Click on it, and you will be taken to the main settings page, locate themes and click on it. Lots of Themes will be displayed, all you have to do is to click on the required theme and it be automatically updated
Having problem login to your account, relax
Quite often, many people encounter one login problem or the other, the below tips will surely be of help:
1. Wrong, forgotten or lost password: this is the most common login problem. This is why I highly advocate that you should enable the two way login verification exercise.
However, if you need help on your password issue, kindly have a look at recover password
2. Wrong or forgotten username: This is the second most common problem, to resolve this with the help of Gmail team, kindly visit their help centre on username recovery
3. If you can’t access your account, also check and click on their solution centre
Login Verification- A must
This is very important as it helps protect your login credentials. The below step and guidelines will assist you on how to set it and have it enabled.
1. From your signed in account, towards the top right hand side, just beside the gear or wheel icon, click on the triangle shape beside your name (username), click on it and then click on “ account settings”.
2. From the account settings, click on “edit” under the 2-step verification
3. From the page presented, there are two options given which is important to accept and update on:
a. Give the details of your mobile phone
b. Select recognition of your computer
4. Click activate
Now, the essence of all this set up is that whosoever happens to even steal your login credentials (password and username) and attempts to access your account would not be able to do so, because Google will send a code to your mobile phone asking that you insert the sent code into the box.
